Hey, I've been looking around and can't get an answer on this. Does anyone know if there is and what is the fine for failing to register a vehicle permit within 6 days of ownership/transfer?

I can see how tough that is ....
I copied

fine for failing to register a vehicle permit within 6 days of ownership/transfer

from your post and pasted it into google AND OHHH MY GAWD! .... I got answers 0.0. I suspect that if I added the name of where ever the heck it is you live on the planet to the search it would give you YOUR answer.

Please don't let my subtle sarcasm bother you, it is just the language my computer was setup to use, No matter what style I type in out comes Canadian Sarcasm.

Sorry, for some reason I thought this was a local forum. Province is Ontario. Doesn't matter what city, the rules are province-wide. I also don't need to hear "go search google" because I have and not finding any direct answers.

really because as I said all I did was copy and paste the same question you asked here, word for word, into google and I got a direct answer to the question on the first page in the first 5 hits. I must be more skilled at hitting enter Smile

All the top results from that search are from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and this Kijiji forum thread. Throwing "Ontario" in that search provides the same rules of buying/selling in Ontario with no mention of what an actual fine is for failing to register. You see, I spent a lot of time on Google before coming to this forum, which I am already regretting. So as of right now, the only things you're managing to be skilled at is: not reading, and being a troll. Well done.

Friend of mine happened to be going to the MTO to renew a tag, so I had her ask them. There is no penalty. Apparently you "must" register within 6 days "by law", but there is no penalty if you don't. A finger wag maybe? Weird.

The time when you would possibly receive the fine or
problem for not making sure your ownership is up to date
and current with the MTO is if you were involved in a
situation where the police were involved...traffic ticket, accident
or other roadside incident.

to my knowledge there has never been a fine for not renewing a tag or failing to transfer ownership in Ontario. I've owned a few cars/trucks that sat around the house for a year or two and were sold again and they were never registered in my name. If there is any fine it is not enforced that I am aware of. The only changes they have made in the last few years I am aware of is that you only get one temp permit now where as a few years back you could just pay for another one once your first one expired.

its one of those laws that is never enforced...same like how the seller (in ontario) is required by law to provide that $20 ripoff transfer package to the seller..
