| bought a used car from a big brand dealer plus extended warranty lucky not really another scam since when purchased the timing belt should have been changed but went 8 months later & engine totalled - took 12 weeks to change engine & service department lie after lie after lie a p o customer & they put it on my extended warranty & then six weeks later my crankshaft senser went not covered 700 dollars worth & things from engine missing, not fastened properly & replaced part not returned so a very unhappy customer of a brand name dealer so told them not contact me no more but they continue to do so to add insult to injury as they were the ones reponsible to replace the engine as their mistake not mine and if I did not use my extended warranty I would receive 2/3 back a total scamm from the dealer, sk so buyer beware xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

The organization overseeing the Dealerships are now engaged on a campaign to descourage people from buying privately using all kind of exagerations and lies. They claim that it is not safe to buy privately since the car could have been previously involved in an accident or the vehicle may have safety related defects. What they forget is that in order to drive that car one has to take it through a Safety test which would reveal them. Better yet, if a buyer does his due diligence, buying privetly is safe.
Now your case here is a good ilustration of the crookery of the dealers. They are the ones that lie and misrepresent the cars. They would not even provide you with the used car package before you pay. They claim that if you buy from a Dealer and get a lemon, you are entitled to access to fund and get compensation. You should complain with them and see if they compensate you in any way. Likely they will come up with a bunch of conditions that would deem you not entitled. That is the old scam.
So no matter how horrible they try to picture the exprience of buying privately, it is the logical way to go. |

Where did you get the idea a safety would necessarily reveal those things? A safety is just a check that the basic safety related mechanical's are functioning as they should be at the time of the safety. No reason to expect it to tell you if the car has been in an accident or if the engine has issues, etc.
Between the safety and the smog check you will get a pretty good idea but that still will not warn you of accidents or the impending failure of the timing belt or crank sensor or things of that nature.
As for the due diligence, that would be correct and the exact same thing applies to buying from a dealership. Functionally there is no significant difference on how the buyer should handle the deal regardless if it is a dealership or a private sale. In both case you do your due diligence but in the end a used car is a used car. If it was a perfect car the previous owner would not likely have traded it in. |

Maintain your cars and engines won't blow up, why are you calling dealers crooks for your car engines blowing up? it's cars anything can happen at anytime doesn't matter where you buy from a dealer or private. Dealers must disclose vehicles history and the cars usually come certified with minimum 30 days warranty and if something happens you are covered where if you buy a car privately(even certified) and the next day the engine blows up or even worst car might have a lien or accident or maybe even stolen who do you turn to for help then?
Good luck, used vehicle package even if you get one from the seller will not help you here. |

A vehicle safety covers the basics on a vehicle. Most aspects of one are obvious, some require a vehicle on a hoist. What kills me are fools who only buy a vehicle based on price. They do see or want to see the red flags such as why the main line dealer is selling a truck for 20k and the "dealer" in the industrial park is selling the same make model with lower k's for 16k. Hmmmm, which one is bound for trouble most of the time? examp le, my friends boss got a great deal on a 09 super duty diesel. average miles, very clean looking. One month and a bit, blew the motor. Now looking at a 13k repair bill. Great deal indeed. Same friend buys a used truck from an upper level used only dealer. truck ran like crap soon after buying. Was told "newer motor", by dealer, shown receipt. Turns out newer motor after searching serial numbers, had more miles than truck had. PLUS,PLUS someone, no proof on who, pulled the abs and check engine light bulbs from dash. Again, truck was 6k cheaper than a real dealer. Great deal?
We're all focussed on price and are too cheap for an outside opinion. Where was vehicle safety done? The brother of seller? Check the BBB for claims? did truck youre looking at spend its life in fort mac never being turned off or given an oil change in 30k? I don't work for a mainline dealer, but i feel that buying a vehicle of certain $$ should only come with factory warrinty or dealer warrinty. These fly by night warrinties are garbage. Phone the head office for a complete listing of stipulations to be mailed to you. Trusting the douche salesman with the size 19 wing tips is your fault.Buy a common vehicle witha common powertrain. I stopped driving my beloved nissan truck because the series i drove were mostly obsolete, and parts costs were huge. Go to a garage you trust, pay a mechanic for his time, ask what vehicles they never see, along with the ones he goes to mexico on. cheers. |

Now i'm mad thinking of a few examples of getting screwed over and from others getting a raw deal.
Your dad is a nice man, but they mostly don't know anything about cars. Bring him along as a co-signer, bring a mechanic to look at it,and drive it.Most fathers only care about price, which i vented on in my last post.
Go to an auction, both high end and the auction for the ghetto cars. the ghetto auction house is where you'll see the vehicles the real dealers never want.High milers, flood cars, cars from across the country with missing parts of history. Cars with butch repairs, cars with "issues". Those are the vehicles that end up in the edge of town lots. Ever wonder how a small shady dealer has two"nice cars" and the rest are older, worn out cheaper car? Do a history on those "good" cars. I'll bet my ex wifes life there's a story behind them, and a ignorant fool with their dad looking at it right now. |
