Hi, I'm new here and to online selling in general. I like that Kijiji has a site counter to see how many people have viewed your ad, but it's also discouraging to see 60 people view your ad and none respond....
What are some reasons that people would view an ad and not respond?? I'm quite precise in my title wording, I give a price, I add a picture and I even state clearly that I accept offers.
When I'm looking to buy, if an ad title draws me in, I'll click on it and then offer a price unless the title was misleading or didn't tell me about a feature I'm not interested in. If the title doesn't make me want to buy the item, I don't click in the first place.
I'm just trying to understand how selling on here works and maybe get some tips on how to get my items sold.
Any help or advice is very much appreciated.
Thank you

There is no way to know for sure, why ads viewed, don't translate into ads responded to, but here are a few possible reasons.
One, the viewer might be interested in your item but your asking price may be WAY too high ( in their way of thinking), so they don't bother to respond for fear of being labeled a "low-baller", I believe this is the number one reason. People buying on Kijiji don't want a good deal, they want a steal of a deal. Sad for the seller, but true.
As well, I often looked at items that I might LIKE, but in reality have no interest in buying, just to past time when I am bored,
Also, the same person might view your item multiple times for whatever reason, leading you to believe that MANY people are viewing your ad when in fact the number may be much lower. I often do this when I see an ad that I think is way too overpriced and check back to see if the seller has lowered the price, a few days later. Other times I click on the item again just to see how many views this overpriced item is getting. So you see your counter may show 60 views, but the number of different people looking at it might be closer to 40, who really knows?
Also a person selling a similar item as you, might view your ad to get a feeling as to whether their item is competively priced.
Some people may have indeed responded, but your Internet service Provider may have flagged their response as "SPAM" and removed it before it has even gotten to you. ( Had this happen to me more then once. Only realized it weeks later when my ISP sent me an email report, listing all the emails they removed as SPAM.) |

Hey SmartestOne,
Thanks for the reply. You make a lot of good points and offered things I hadn't considered.
There must be a magic formula and perhaps I'll find it one day:) |

You're welcome, mysta02! If you find that magic formula be sure to share it with me, OK?
Oh,by the way I noticed by your post count that you're relatively new, so in case no one has welcomed you to the forums, let me be the first. It is always good to see newbies. We can always use some "New Blood" on these boards, as the postings can be a little slow at times. Anyways, enjoy your day, my friend! |
