OK heres a question for all you 2 dog pet owners.
my youngest pup Nyx just went into heat or well i just noticed today. I am not going to breed her or anything as she is only 10months right now. and she only around fixed males. But while she is in heat she is under house arrest so she stuck to being put out in the back yard n not really any walks.

But my Question is will my older female who is fixed be alright with her while she is in heat. my mom worry that my older one may start a fight but I am pretty sure they will be fine together. We do have a kennel for Nyx to go in if need be.

I dont want to hear how i should have gotten her fixed at a younger age or this and that. Sorry this is the first time i have 2 female dogs together as my old dog China never wanted any female really in her yard when she was younger n we only had male dogs. and she was fixed during her heat.

I tryed to find something online but mostly finding stuff about male n female or 2 intact dogs not getting alone. my pup is the only intact dog in the group of dogs she see at all. as she wont be going to the dog park n all the dogs we know there are also fixed

I have 3 dogs unfixed 2 females and one male. Let me tell you it can be a gong show around here sometimes playing musical dogs. My females are more playful if anything when in heat and the only one in fear of being bitten is my male for being annoying although he thinks he is being studly.

Beware though some neutered males will sometimes try to mount an in heat female or have other embarassing things happen to them ( you will know if it happens ).

i know what you mean about the male humping. i watch a male that's going on 2 or just over 2 n he has been fixed since he was 6 months but humps when he gets over excited. should have been a clue the last week but then again he will try n hump the fixed female they have to...

Nyx has become more playful and needy more then usual. she decided 4 am last night was the prefect time to get up. Luckily her bleeding phase should stop before my nieces come home so i don't have 2 little girls worried about their pup bleeding.

you guys have put my mind at easy as i was trying to think how the heck i was going to keep my dogs apart. as they both love to be near each other unless its Night time and that's probably cause Porsche doesn't really like doing the stairs to much.

Any tips on the heat of a female would be great also. like i said china got fixed mid heat only cause she would attack any dog near her n i was like 12 at the time so didn't pay much attention.

my experience is the heat cycle is about a month long with the bleeding phase the bright red blood lasting the longest at this point she is interested in boys but not interested in mating. the next phase is the blood turns more pinky then red and this is the time you need to really keep an eye on her she will be ready to experience LOVE. when the boys come neat her she will stand still and tall with her tail lifted to the side ( known as flagging ) watch her closely and make sure other males can not get at her. When she is coming out of heat she will no longer stand for the males and will ignore them and peace will rain once again and no more funky smell will fill the house.

If you able buy some doggy diapers and control the mess it will make living with her easier.

I too currently have a female in heat not time yet to play musical dogs but it will be soon. Easier for me as mine are all quite small so easier to separate with gates although my male can be pretty determined at times. But this is our life 2-3 times a year until I get the money together to get him fixed and then the girls.

I have a different view than everyone else.

Although, none of my dogs are unaltered, I have found that with multiple females there is way more posturing and fights than with my males.

I have heard this from many breeders as well that females are waaaayyy worse for getting into scraps than males. I dont know if having one spayed and one not makes a difference But I do know that my females and any foster females that I have had have much more issues with each other than the boys.

I guess just keep an eye out for any body posturing or hard stares.

I would not leave these females alone together, you do not want a XXXXX fight.
What do you mean by she is stuck being put in the back yard?

meaning she wont be out on walks. and she will have to pay in the back yard. my dogs are all house dogs.

well right now i am off on holidays so don't have to worry about my female being alone together just yet.

females both know there place. my oldest is 8 years old going on nine. and Nyx is only 10 months so she usually follows what ever the oldest does n she is submissive towards Porsche always has been.

Funny I have never had any of my female dogs fight when in heat. I have always let my dogs go through at least 2 heat cycles before spaying. Currently have small dogs but I did have shepherds and they never fought either.

I think if the owner is clearly the pack leader then there shouldn't be any fighting among the dogs. My dogs have and will posture but then it turns into play not aggression.

I suppose every dog is different and breed also may account in how they may react.

i have a female cane corso mastif and she is always calm and relaxed. when she is in heat she is like a zombie. shes emotional and lazy. but she did try and mount me. she doesnt ever do that until this time in heat. she is two. i wouldnt assume that she would start a fight with my other dog if we were gone but all dogs have different personalities. it could happen or maybe not.. also depends on the day. maybe go outside and leave them alone and spy on them and see what happens. if something does happen you are right there to break it up. hope that helps

At age 2, I would think it is the perfect time to get her spayed.

Very frustrating time for them, since they feel they have to mate
when they are in heat...not to forget that every unfixed male
for miles will be thinking the same thing.

I can tell you have never had to break up a real dog fight. Much better to prevent a fight than trying to break one up where dogs and people get hurt.

sorry haven't gotten back on here a lot. been busy with the new year and back to work. well no fights happened in the house or at all. they just stayed away from each other. they did play but not a lot. Nyx was a overly loving while she was in heat. she hated to be out of my eye sight. Also she barely bled at all which was awesome.

Also didn't have a bunch of males around. this week she as she out of heat or coming out. she got to play with 2 of her pals. was still watching her just in case she wasn't fully done her heat as one of the males she plays with isn't fixed(only male she plays with that isn't). he was the only one trying to get freaky with her. but she just lay there looking like he was messed. i swear she didn't even realize what he was trying to do.

I just hope her Nyx heat is like this one if i don't get her fixed before then as i do want to wait until she is 2 to get her done.

Don't be fooled by the stop bleeding because that is usually when they are ready to be bred. The blood seems to thin to a pink almost clear discharge and many people think their dog is out of heat and they are not. A sure sign she is out of heat is when that male play mate is not trying to get all sexy with her or if she is telling him off for taking interest.
