Are there any families in the Barrie Ontario area with active chickenpox? My daughters school is FULL of cases right now (all but 2 have been vaccinated for it btw) but I can't seem to get in contact with any-I am interested in having a play date with anyone with the disease to expose my 4yr old before she starts school in sept. All my children have had it, and immune so I want my youngest to benefit the same. Plus have us adults re exposed to strengthen our immune response. Please if there's anyone here willing to help us out, let me know! Thank you. Ignorant people need not respond.

So sorry to hear that the vaccine seems to fail.

This disease is so dangerous for pregnant women in the first trimester.

I remember when all my kids got it.

My sister was pregnant at the time and we were so worried.

All went well ...kids got thru it no problem and my sister had a healthy
baby boy with no problems.

I can certainly understand your dilemma.

When mumps went around 3 of my 4 kids got it....My oldest son
did not. I worried like mad that he would get it as an adult with
disastrous consequences but that never happened.

Funny how these things happen.

I've had chicken pox twice! Once as a 3 year old and another time as a 5 year old. I can't remember which time was worse but I have a few scars from the pox being so bad.

Make sure in your profile that your email address is visible.

That way, other members can contact you.

Bad idea to publish your phone # or other identifying
info on a forum. You have no idea what that will bring
into your life.

I don't understand these pox-playdates, they are unnecessary and simply stupid.
If you want your child to be immune get the vaccine and hope for the best, Otherwise wait it out and she'll get them on her own like most kids, there is no difference if she gets them before she starts school or say in.. grade 3, If she gets them during the school term she'll only miss a couple days of school, One of the joys for the kid who gets them.

Holding Pox parties isn't safe or sane and looking for strangers online to infect your kid is dangerous and as there is no proof holding pox parties even will result in your child catching them why take the risk?

Scheduling illness, dunno about that idea. Your child won't be bothered by missing a few days of school and most do get Chicken Pox in the lower grades. So really, whose convenience are we talking about here? The child, or the parent?

Most people develop lifetime immunity to chickenpox after the first occurrance and never experience it again. But the virus can sometimes resurface later in life as SHINGLES (Zoster). All childeren
except those with a compromised immune system, should have the vaccination. Vaccination has been associated with 90% decrease in
incidence of Chickenpox and significantly lower complication rates .
Although usually self-limited, chickenpox can also cause more serious complications, including Pneumonia, Encephalitis, and secondary skin infections

Chicken pox may seem like a harmless rash that itches
but make no mistake, shingles is very painful when it
appears years later....

I would opt for the vaccine.....We did not have that choice when I was a child.

Your immune system must have been strong at that time, I dont think you will catch the chickenpox now, but just in cause avoid anyone with the virus.

My issue with the vaccine is that it requires boosters every 5 years. I didnt realize this when I got it for my daughter, she won't be getting it again. Whose to say she doesn't become reckless with her health care as an adult and fail to get the boosters? Then she gets it as an adult when its far worse? No thanks. She won't be getting another vaccine and I WILL look for a pox party just in case

Nikky, I have never heard about a Var (Varicella or Chickenpox vaccine)
given a booster every 5 years. At least not in Ontario.
Here is the scedual for Immunizations in Canada

2 Months Dtap,IPV, Hib,PNEU,MENI
4 Months DTap,IPV,Hib,PNEU,MENI
6 Months DTap,IPV,HIB,PNEU,MENI
12Months MMR,VAR,PNEU.
18months DTaP,IPV,HIB,MMR

4-6 Yrs DTaP,and IPV (MMR scond dose may be given at this age-this
varies from Providence to providence)

Pre Teen/Teen- Hepatitus "B" (some childeren may need this during
infancy)
HPV-(females 9-13 yrs)

14-16 yrs TdaP, MENI ( at 12 depending on vaccine used and
jurisdiction)

Source : PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCY OF CANADA

The Varicella vaccine is made of Varicella (Chickenpox) weakend Virus
It boost the Immune system against Varicella

DTaP: Diphtheria,Tentanus,(Lockjaw) and (Acelluar) Pertussis(Whooping
Cough)

HIB: Hemophilus Influenza b/Meningitis

HPV: Human Papilloma Virus

IPV: Injected Polio Vaccine

MENI: Meningococcal disease

MMR: Measles, Mumps and Rubella

PNEU: Pneumococcal disease

Vaccination may be delayed if your child is sick with anything other than a mild cold, or if he or her immune system is weakend by immune-suppressing medications.
