Paypal is safe to use if done so properly.

Kijiji is intended to be Local and In Person transactions.

Paypal is unnecessary.

Be alert to emails like this, because they are usually
fraudsters and scammers and forged cheques and
money orders are involved and bogus paypal
notifications as well....

It is not fun to become a victim of these scammers.

There's another scammer out there. Has replied to same ad of mine again after a failed attempt at getting money out of us. "Laurent" seems to be the predominant name he uses...or variations of it. I've seen 4 different e-mail addresses from this person in conversations with him/her. laurentroy22@gmail, laurentroy1@blumail, laurtroy224@yahoo....I'm sure there's a hundred more. Just keep in mind what everyone is saying....do not correspond with any suspicious replies referring to your item as "item" or offering more than asking price to have shipped. This guy wants to use PayPal. PayPal has been notified. He sent us a fake confirmation from PayPal that the funds were transferred. When I told him I'd send him the money once we actually saw the funds in our account and transferred to our bank, he replied that his shipper has to be paid first then we will get the funds.....what an idiot! Play it safe and do cash only transactions, face to face, like Kijiji recommends. Could save you a lot of headache!

Now because I'm a nice guy with zero scamming intentions, I put my phone number on the ad selling something of mine. Texts at all hours, ASAP messages. All are very recognizable, all involve shipping stuff. They seem to come from Alabama and New York numbers, ALL unable to be called with NO legitimate answering message. Some ship to here, some ship to there. Don't be fooled! Stay fit and have fun!!

I currently have a few Ads posted on Kijiji, and in my ads I include my telephone numbers and advise people that they along with email may also phone or text.

Yesterday, my boyfriend got a text from phone number 1-484-416-xxxx, when he told me about it, I thought it was odd that someone from an area outside of Manitoba would be interested in purchasing our Wii.

The Text said:

"i will like to know if the nintendo wii you posted on kijiji is still available? it is needed urgently"

So, my boyrfriend not realizing that the area code was weird responded and said yes, it took a long time to get another response...after the evening passing, my boyfriend got a text this morning now telling us where they would like it shipped to, apparently his wife needs the Wii but is currently stationed in, you guessed it Nigeria. Here is the text he received this morning:

"Here is her address:
Brenda Heinz, block j, plot 12, alaba street, city akure, ondo state, zip code: 234034, country: Nigeria

My boyfriend has now told him to take a hike in a nice way...

Naively I was scammed about 5 or 6 years ago, by the same type of thing, so my back was up instantly yesterday...but today just confirmed my assumptions about it being a scam!

I guess I will just include a message on my ads that says will only do business locally, no shipping.

Not sure if texting by these scammers is normal, I've read a lot about their email scams, but just thought texting was unusual for them!
Texting is the new scam method. Once you reply they will direct you to email them. Avoid at all costs if the number is fishy

Typical scam for a big ticket item and of course
they lie about the payment and get away with it
with some victims.

Never use their links that they provide.

Deals on Kijiji are meant to be local, and in person.

If someone wants to purchase something that expensive
without seeing it in person first, Red Flags should be
popping up all over the place as well as alarm bells.

My brother is selling his PSPV. A woman named "Linda" texted him about needing the PSPV for her pastor's son as a gift. I told him it was a scam espcially when he told me that "linda" was wanting it shipped to West Africa. "Linda" has my brother's phone number and told him to send her an invoice through PayPal and that she would pay 600 dollers (double his asking price plus 200 for shipping). I told him not to do it and because he doesnt know how to use paypal he says he's not going to do it. I doubt this will be the end of it but i hope so. The only reason I use PayPal is for legit transactions through major clothing stores online.

Careful of scams people!!!

"Robert" used the address: auussie-301@yahoo.com I am selling a sailboat, and had just re-posted with a reduced price.

First inquiry: “Interested in your ad,Is there anything else to add?”

Second:
“just wanted to make sure nothing has been left out
Happy to purchase at your asking price and do you have a PayPal account,as i will be paying the with PayPal and have pick up done from your location as i am away at the moment. In the meantime, can you send me more pictures?
Regards
Robert”

The third, in response to my inquiry of how it would be transported:
“A shipping company and it will be placed on a trailer and driven off”

And the fourth, confirming the receipt of the pictures, which went unmentioned after the request in the second:
“Got them and let me know when you get the PayPal active”

“Robert” shows no interest whatsoever in what he is buying, only in the financial aspect of the transaction. All the scammers seem to use Gmail or Yahoo accounts which cannot be traced, and I wonder if they use a price reduction as an alert to determine that the seller may be anxious.

Everyone that uses Kijiji.ca beware f the scams! I know you see this a lot and figure it will never happen to you. Honestly if you want a good example, try selling a cell phone and you're bound to run into one. I just posted my second cell phone that I am trying to sell on Kijiji. The first phone I had up I had 2 scam attempts and after posting my new ad last night I already had someone try to pull this crap once again. It typically follows a script more or less because it's always the same story. They are currently out of state on business (In Canada there are provinces, not states) so first flag is this person is not local so why would they need to buy a phone from NS when they can find thousands of phones for sale near them. Another sign is the BrOken EnGriSh.Most will offer to wire the money or send it via Paypal while offering an additional $80-150 for your troubles and to cover the cost of shipping making it a little more tempting to go through with. I even had one go as far as sending me a fraudulent bank website telling me my money is on hold until I send the item and enter the tracking number. So before I did anything I clicked the link where it told me to go to give the tracking number. When I did this I was re-directed to a Bank of America website telling me that the link has been flagged as fraudulent and is not part of Bank of America. So if I had sent the item and then tried to put in the tracking number I would have just given my phone away for free AND paid for the shipping for these scam artists. PLEASE BEWARE my own curious nature is what saved me but other may not be as lucky.

here is the reply I got for selling my ps3

the person said they wanted my item because of the great deal. he was willing to pay 200 dollars more than the price I posted for shipping and handling to West Africa. apparently, he is business man who lives in Ottawa( which is not true because his number is from New York) and wanted me to ship the item to a friend in west africa for her birthday. I searched on google to find the prices for shipping to africa then I found out about the scam. and now I replied saying a friend of mine lives in Ottawa and he could meet him. No reply after that Very Happy
